This week in ISM I attended another one of Mr. Allen’s weekly webinars. The first week of the month is always a Hot Seat session where each business owner on the call are able to bring up their own problems and have Mr. Allen and other business owners in the call help them with whatever they need. In this week’s session, it was just me and two other business owners. We began by talking about me and the impending graduation crisis due to COVID-19. They provided me some seriously valuable lessons in regards to college. My greatest takeaway from the lesson was to involve myself heavily in other clubs and organizations my freshman year to get opportunities in the rest of my years that my classes can’t provide me. They said that many employers are looking at the extracurriculars that college students partook in to see the leadership, development, strategy skills that they have learned and using that as a measure of ability.
Later our discussion began to discuss the coronavirus’ impacts on the future of the workplace. The other small business owners on the call believed the future of working/jobs will require more digitalization and internet involvement. One of the owners said they were planning on changing their signature block at the end of their emails to show their customers they aren’t trying to tackle the future with a “business as normal” direction and a more “we are here for you as family” direction. I think this helps me with my final product because Euphoria! Bars needs to have a backup plan for how to address emergencies, similar to COVID-19, that I can work on.
