This week was an extremely busy week in ISM. Nearly every day after school I had scheduled research interviews with consulting professionals. On Monday, I met with Mr. Rich Allen from Tour de Profit. Mr. Allen described himself as a small business “coach,” one who works with his clients every step of the way and holds weekly meetings with them to review their progress. This interview excited me because I was able to confirm my interest in consulting. Mr. Allen was listing traits that all aligned with my personal interests including being hardworking, creative, and interested in problem-solving. On Tuesday, I met with Mr. Larry King from SMD Consulting & Accounting who also works with small companies and manages projects mainly about revenue and tax. I found Mr. King to be extremely interesting, and I feel like both Mr. King and Mr. Allen are possible mentors for me. My future hope would be to try and interview more consultants at bigger corporations, since I hope to work at a large consulting firm, before picking a mentor. My third interview of the week was with Mr. Louay Hashem from AustinCSI. This interview taught me the importance of building relationships with others and being a coachable person in the corporate world. I am also very surprised and happy because Mr. Hashem offered a possible internship once I was in college with AustinCSI!
In the upcoming weeks I will try to schedule an interview with a consultant at a major consulting corporation by reaching out to more professionals on Linkedin. I am also excited for the Business Symposium on Wednesday, October 2nd. I want to gain more professional connections that will help me in the corporate world at the symposium.
