Happy Leap Day! This week in ISM I decided to focus my research assessment on the topic of leadership rather than management consulting. I feel like I have researched so many articles dealing specifically with consulting so I decided it would be a nice change. As a consultant, I know that in the future I will have to deal with the leaders/management of whatever firm I am sent to work for so it would be greatly beneficial for me to familiarize myself with the workings of leadership in a corporate environment. My article discussed the five characteristics of good leaders in work. It was actually the transcript of a speech given by the CEO of Encompass Services Corporation who was addressing the members of a construction club in college. I found it very interesting to see how despite the differences between professional fields, good leaders will generally share the same traits and desires. The five traits were Integration, Innovation, Importance, Intensity, and Integrity. For me the trait that stuck out to me was Intensity. In whatever career field I end up in I must be “intense” in pursuing my goals and move towards the future with passion. I will work hard and improve myself in all aspects because I fervently want to to obtain my dreams and be successful in the future. Intensity perfectly encapsulates this trait and the article was able to explain how leaders with intensity would help improve companies because they were always on the lookout for improvement in the firm.
